the mind and the Spirit

the mind and the Spirit

Consider all that Romans chapter 8 teaches us about having the Spirit:

Verse 2- the Spirit sets us free

Verse 4-we walk according to the Spirit

Verse 5- we set our minds on the things of the Spirit

Verse 9- we are in the Spirit if the Spirit dwells in us

Verses 10&11- we live in the Spirit, the very same Spirit that gave Christ life from the dead

Verse 13- we put to death the deeds of the flesh by the Spirit

Verse 14- we are those who are led by the Spirit

Verse 15 – we have received the Spirit of adoption

Verse 16- the Spirit bears witness with us

We set our minds on the Spirit so that we can walk according to the Spirit. Our outlook governs and guides our ongoing activity.

The battle begins in the mind.

To set the mind is the activity of reason and thinking, but it is more than that.

It is about our attention and affection.

It is about our hope which sets our direction.

Either you have the things of the flesh as the absorbing, occupying objects of thought and interest and affection and hope.

Or you have the things of the Spirit as the absorbing, occupying objects of thought and interest and affection and purpose and hope.

Which is it with you?
