Good Books for Gifting

If you want to get a good Christian book for a friend or family member, here are a few ideas …

Lewis on the Christian Life, Joe Rigney

I have read (and thoroughly enjoyed) almost all of the books in this series. This book is a deep dive into one of the most imaginative Christian writers ever to wield the pen.

Holiness Day by Day, Jerry Bridges

This is a daily devotional book. Short (one page each day).  It is full of gospel gold. Bridges is the master at motivating you toward greater discipline while also and at the very same time saturating you in the pure grace of God’s free acceptance in Christ.

The Soul in Paraphrase: A Treasury of Classic Devotional Poems, Leland Ryken

I love poetry. Do you? If you don’t, let me convince you that, with the right guide, you just might. Leland Ryken, Professor of English at Wheaton college, has selected and explained all the poems in this wonderful starter collection.

Psalms (two volumes 1-72 & 73-150), Derek Kidner

This commentary might not be a book that you open up, sit back, and read cover to cover. But it is a gem. The Psalms are one of the best books for personal study and meditation. This concise commentary never fails to yield helpful insights in the text.

Tying the Knot Tighter, John Crotts and Martha Peace

I have commended this marriage book to many couples through the years. It is designed for couples to use together. Each short chapter has questions for personal reflection and discussion.

Merry Christmas!
